Teacher Note

Teaching in the inner city I integrated my classroom every day.  I made sure that each student knew that I genuinely cared about them. That is why "YouMatter" is so important.  One day when discussing about what happened to some of my black students in a "white neighborhood" one of the students stated "Those white boys." I said "Wait a minute I am white." A student immediately stated: "No, you are not Mr. Blumengarten." I felt really accepted at that moment.
